Training provided includes all aspects of current podiatric practice, but  is primarily focused on comprehensive reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle.   The program prides itself on providing instruction in not only the technical aspects of surgery, but equally important the thought process and preparation leading up to procedures, and the post-operative management of surgical patients.

In addition to surgical training, residents are provided ample opportunity to care for patients in both in-patient and out-patient settings.  In-house patients are most often admitted directly to the Podiatric Surgery Service where residents are trained in complex medical management. Out-patient experience is provided in both clinic and private office settings, and is crucial to later success in practice. The full gamut of consulting services is available, and residents learn how to function efficiently and effectively in today's medical environment.

The program is primarily sponsored by Yale – New Haven Medical Center which is a collaborative teaching facility of Yale University School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Hospital. The Residency Program is fully accredited by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education.
